For adults, many in-person work meetings are now held online and there is an increasing amount of business that operate virtually. Just as that happened, tutoring is becoming more widely available because of our shift to online tutoring. Tutoring itself, will not create miracles, but there are ways to make the most of out of an online tutoring session. Here are a few tips:
1. Quite Surrounding
One of the biggest impacts on your ability to focus is on your surroundings. It is important to ensure you sit at a desk or table with your device and other learning materials such as books, textbooks etc. This needs to a be a space where you can focus on your work, without loud background noise, and while not sitting in bed.
2. Avoid Interruptions
One of the biggest distractions in online learning is the use of your phone. A good way to avoid phone distractions is to turn your phone off and keep it in a different room to the one you’re in. Make sure to turn on your webcam in your tutoring session so your tutor can ensure that your eyes are focused on the learning contents which is on your computer screen.
3. Prepare for the lesson
When your lesson is online, you cannot take your school worksheets and show your tutor like how you could when lessons are in person. To better prepare for your online lesson, students will need to scan in any physical documents before the lesson so that you can work on it with your tutor digitally. Any homework done on paper will need to be scanned or photographed and sent to your tutor prior to the lesson. It would be a waste of lesson time if all of this is done during the lesson.
