Five Ways to Create a Positive Learning Environment
Creating a nice learning environment in which children can learn is an important way of motivating them to do well in school. It is, however, easier said than done because many young students have their own beliefs about learning limitations and reservations. It is critical to assist youngsters in looking beyond such limitations for them to flourish and thrive as autonomous learners.
A teacher, tutor, or even a parent may encourage a healthy learning environment in these four ways:
1. Understanding
Understanding how a kid feels in the context of learning can help you make decisions about how to create a pleasant learning environment. If you can pinpoint what it is about a specific venue, subject, or instructor that has an influence on a child, you may begin to build alternatives that foster their natural confidence. A critical element of understanding is that it communicates to a kid that you recognise and appreciate their concerns and are prepared to address them in order to help them feel more at ease. It also demonstrates your tolerance for their concerns, and it will undoubtedly facilitate dialogue between the two of you.
2. Reinforcement of Positive Behaviour
Encouragement and appreciation are critical motivators for each individual. It will be hard to build on our successes if we are not made aware of what we have done right. A simple verbal praise such as ‘excellent effort’ or ‘well done’ can be enough to boost their confidence and encourage them to strive harder the following time.
3. Self-assurance
Increase a student’s confidence in any topic by providing them practise. Providing them with core skills and background information might help them feel more confident when confronted with new topics or themes. If they have nothing to relate to when it comes to new material, they may shut down and be hesitant to even try.
4. Open Communication
If a student feels that it is impossible or uncomfortable to enquire and seek assistance from a teacher or tutor, he or she will refuse to do so. Likewise, if they have been discouraged from asking questions due to ambiguous answers, frustration, or general lack of clarification they will shut down to information which needs explanation. Let students know that you welcome their questions and are happy to help until they feel comfortable with the material. Your support can do wonders for their confidence and ability to problem solve.
